I am new on this site and haven't really figured out how to get around, or how to check messages or anything.  I apologize if this is the wrong place to be asking such questions and if there is a better place to post this, let me know.

My boy is a little over 8 mos old and in the past few days he has been having "temper tantrums".  These fits are especially bad when he needs to go to bed or if someone doesn't give him something he wants like the TV remote.  They involve kicking and over-emotional crying (sorry, I don't know how else to describe it)...are these really temper tantrums or is he too young for that yet?  How do we nip this is the bud.  He isn't talking yet, so how can we explain to him that his behavior is unacceptable.

Hi! Welcome to iVillage! Are you from the Prairie Provinces? I'm sure somebody here will offer you some suggestions.

We have tons of message boards on Pregnancy & Parenting that might help you out. You can find a link to the message boards towards the top of the page here, right under the long ad at the top. Or in my sig or right here: http://parenting.ivillage.com/messageboards/ You might find a playgroup for your son for the month and year he was born on the right hand column of the page, where you can find other moms probably dealing with these same issues. You might scroll down and find the Child Rearing Styles if you are interested in how a Positive Parent or an Attachment Parent might deal with the issue. Or if you think he's really strong willed, you could try the Spirited/High Needs Children board.

If you have another other questions or this doesn't answer your question, come back and I'll be glad to help more!

I'm glad you found us!
