This is my first time posting here altho I have lurked quite often. First let me introduce myself my name is Jacinta and I am a single mommy to 4 daughters aged 15, 14, 12 and 5. Unfortunately all my children have been vaccinated because I just followed the schedule as I thought I was supposed to do. However in recent years with my love of the internet and desire for research I now feel I know better....even within this last year. 2 of my daughters got the HPV vaccine last year (stupid me) needless to say the one due for it this year never received it! I would do things so different if I had my time back. Now today, H1N1..first let me say i live in a rural community in Newfoundland, Canada and the people here are gone crazy! Parents are not sending healthy kids to school and those of us who do are being made to feel like the "bad" parent. The media is pushing the vaccine, the locals are pushing the vaccine ( available to high risk for the first time tomorrow btw) I am firm in my decision not to vaccinate! My question is how do you deal with such one sided-ness and the comments of well keep your family away from me, how awful! you must vaccinate!.....I am literally feeling like an outcast and know of others who admit to caving into the peer pressure (thank heavens I am stronger than that) I know I am going to have hell to pay for a while.....please tell me how you all deal. Thanks

First congratulations on your first post here! :)

I'm so sorry you are feeling bad and feeling like an outcast.

Okay...I was totally where you are right now, just a couple of years ago. My older 2 kids were vaccinated and for some reason around the time my 2 year old was born I started researching vaccinations. I think it was something someone said in the pregnancy group I was in so I came here and read some things so I didn't have him vaccinated when he was born and chose to wait until I knew more. Well, it's 2 years later and he still hasn't been vaccinated for anything and has been to the doctor only a few times and he's fine. And even probably exposed to swine flu, or at least seasonal flu and he never got sick. My daughter and I were both sick with some kind of flu but my husband, and both sons have been fine.

I come here for support. Exactly what the group is here for. But before I didn't have my youngest vaccinated, and before I researched it, I had my son and daughter, at 11 and 13 vaccinated for everything that they were due for, including my daughter who had the HPV vaccine, same as yours did. So don't say, "stupid you." We just didn't know. And thank God! Our girls are okay. Right?

My daughter even had 4 shots at once! This was while I was still pregnant with my 2 year old. I had no idea! And I felt terrible, terrible guilt for quite a long time after coming here and learning the truth. And we are having issues with her, which seemed to start after her last vaccinations and I wonder everyday if it's because of the shots. Also, my oldest son has ADHD. Again, I wonder if it was caused by the vaccinations. But it is, what it is. I can't change it. But I can keep them from taking any more vacs from now on.

It's not just where you live. They are pushing H1N1 vaccinations here too, especially in the schools, but they aren't mandatory, yet! The news doesn't do their research apparently. Everyone gets their information from the CDC and I don't believe a thing they say!

As far as being an outcast; we haven't "come out" to any family members yet, and don't know what they really think. It hasn't been discussed. I have talked to my mother and she understands I think, because she remembers the swine flu vaccination in 1976 and remembers how many people got sick and died.

I sometimes hear too much from the media and start doubting our decisions to not vaccinate so I deal with it by coming here and the vaccination debate group and getting support.

Hope this helps! You aren't alone!!!!

HUGS!

Why do you discuss it?  I do not. I can deal with ignorance on the internet (I can just close my laptop) but irl? Nope I am not going to stress myself with the sheeple that blindly place their faith in vaccines without doing an iota of research aside from talking to their pediatricians (if even that).

I tell people its against my religion and it is NOT up for discussion, the subject is closed to any further topics of vaccines, if i know they are pro-vax. Theres no point in even wasting your time. A good line i read and use is, "If God wanted me to take vaccines, there would have been a port built into my body for such a purpose."

The looks i get when i use that line are hysterical! It stops the conversation about it then and there.

I take care of a 91y.o. man and he is against vaccines as well. He never had any for the flu all his life... he is spry, with it, and still takes care of most of his needs.. i am there to make sure nothing happens to him.

Thanks so much for your response and warm welcome. People here are crazy, parents are not sending healthy kids to school resulting in my children being in a classroom with 2 - 4 students each day this week. Book fairs, halloween dances, birthday parties are all being cancelled. I am just waiting on the announcement of no trick or treating allowd. I don't get the big frenzy..so you can see why I am getting the "outcast" feeling.

Thanks again!
