You've probably read that I'm almost positive DD and I both had H1N1. We had all the symptoms. Could have been seasonal flu but hadn't really heard of that going around here yet. Still pretty early in the season and all the hospitals and doctors offices were reporting H1N1.
In fact, one of my daughter's friends had it for sure (she got tested at the hospital) and I think that she was over at our house not long before she got sick. Then we got sick about a week after she did. I even noticed she had a cough at that time but she didn't seem to be sick.

We are a family of 5 with my youngest being 24 months old. She and I were the only ones in the family to get sick. The other 2 kids (the 15 yr. old and 24 month) and my husband never showed signs of being ill. Well, DH complained a couple of times about feeling a little sick but I figured it was just sympathy symptoms. He tends to think he's sick when he's not. LOL

I've just heard most people say that pretty much everyone in the whole family got sick. Or maybe one person didn't get sick. So I'm wondering what happened? Does anyone have any thoughts? Should I still worry about the rest of the family, especially my 24 month old? I'm sure the rest of the family was exposed to it through DD and me. I even accidentally coughed directly on DH once while we were sleeping. So is it possible, since they were exposed to it by proximity and that they are immune now?

Do you HAVE to be sick to become immune? I sure hope not because I'll probably freak in the baby gets it.

Thanks for your help!

Laurie

I have no idea if you had h1n1 or some other virus.  Re: immunity: not everyone that is exposed to a virus becomes symptomatic, some people gain immunity to pathogens without the outward signs.  On the other side of that coin just being exposed to a sick person does not necessarily mean that the family member was infected.  Sorry this post was probably of no help. Maybe you could have your titers checked.

I think you answered a question or 2. But what are titers? That's the 2nd time I've seen that word today. I did a search but still didn't really understand what it is.

Thanks!

http://www.umm.edu/ency/article/003333.htm

Antibody titer is a laboratory test that measures the presence and amount of antibodies in blood.

When I was PG they did a titers for Rubella to see how my immunity was for it, I had non (LOL at the original vaccine working into my 30's)

LOL, yeah.

Well that's what I thought it must be. When I was pregnant with my last, I worked in an elem. school with some kids that got Fifth Disease and it can be dangerous to the fetus so I got tested to see if I was immune and I was. I guess I'd had it before and just didn't know.

Thanks!

Laurie
