Won't drink milk from sippy cup!

Hi, I was a but late weening my son from the bottle because we could never find a sippy cup that he would take. Other moms suggested the straw cup, and he can use that with no problem. He drinks water all day long from it (we haven't offered juice yet). The problem is that he won't drink milk from his straw cup. He throws it on the floor when he realizes there is milk in it. We've been trying for a few weeks.

We decided not to go cold turkey - he still gets a bottle in the am, and before bed.

He's now 14 months, and I'm starting to get worried that I won't get him off the bottle! I have tried the Nuk and the Nuby and he won't take it. Any suggestions? Thanks!!!

I never had any problems with my OYO refusing to drink from certain cups so i dont know if this will work or not, but worth a try.. how about a normal cup? You would have to tip it for him, or even a normal water bottle (like pump or something with a pop-top) Elody loves those, can not drink from them if she is around because she end up stealing it and taking off :P HTH :)

Galete started a regular cup a little later, but she was fine with it once we started.  Just make it plastic and only fill it a little bit.

That said, I wouldn't worry too much at 14 months!  Galete didn't take a bottle, but of her friends that did, they all weaned off either cold turkey or by themselves between 17 and 26 months.  The two main worries are jaw alignment and cavities.  But at only twice a day, it's a big difference from kids who drink from it all day and carry it around (though you should brush his teeth afterwards at night).

The other option is to ditch milk altogether, and the bottle may go with that.  He can get Vit D from sunlight, supplements, or other fortified foods; calcium from cheese, yogurt, broccoli, etc.; and Vit B12 from other animal products or fortified cereal (we're vegetarian so it's just eggs and dairy for us, but meat has B12 too).  I know many pediatricians would gasp at that but most of the world survives just fine without any dairy at all, much less straight milk.

I don't what to tell you because I have the same problem, just wanted to say you're not alone.
