Sorry it took so long!

Olivia Rose arrived on Monday Sept 21 at 3:34pm. 8lbs 2oz, 20in.

  • 5:45am- Arrived at the hospital
  • 7:30am- Finally got started with antibiotics for GBS, then pitocin- I was 5cm and 60% so they didn't want to break my water until I had the antibiotics in for 4hrs.
  • 7:30-12:15- Contractions went from every 4 mins to every 2 mins. I was still laughing and joking
  • 12:15- OB broke my water (7cm) and contractions were immediately more intense every 1.5-2mins
  • 12:45- decided I better get the epi because they were back-archingly uncomfortable and I knew I couldn't bend my legs to get her out. I tried my music and different positions...no such luck.
  • 1:15- Epi Man came to my rescue. He was a million times better than my first one with Connor.
  • 2:15- Nurse checked and said I was Complete! I thought she was joking and she laughed at me :) OB wanted me to labor down for an hour since O's head wasn't all the way down yet.
  • 2:30-3:00- Nap, yes I said nap...gotta love the epi
  • 3:15- Checked and her head was right there. Gave a practice push and the nurse said it wouldn't take much
  • 3:25ish- OB came in and they got everything set up.
  • 3:30- I pushed through 1 contraction and then she told me to push again before the next contraction if I could, so I did. She gave me a 10 sec break after the second set and had me keep going because there were decelerations in her heart rate. So I kept pushing. About 2 contrations and 12 pushes total and my little girl was out!

She came out with both hands by her face, so I ended up tearing on the last push. Cord was around her neck and she was pretty purple, but she did let out a good cry. Apgars were 8 & 9. They put her right on my belly for a minute and then had to get her some oxygen and suck some fluid out.

I wanted out of the hospital on Tuesday, but because I was GBS+ they wanted us to stay till Wed to make sure Olivia was fine. We got out about 10am on Wed.

Things have been pretty good. 1st 2 nights home were long nights. She cluster fed from 12:30-5:30am the first night and then 1-7:30am the second night. I got about 2 hrs of sleep both nights and only 30 min nap both days, but felt surprisingly good. My mom and grandma were here from Sunday night - Sat morning and my dad got here on Thursday night. Grandma was a great help and very supportive, mom was a pain in my butt telling me what to do and arguing with me about everything.

Connor is in love with her and has been a great big brother. He likes to hold her and hasn't driven his cars on her face yet :) We had some acting out from him, but I think most of that was because we had company and he was running the show while we were in the hospital.

Here is a link to a bunch of pics. We did her studio pics on Wed afternoon, and it was just as horrible of an experience as Connor's, but we did it anyway.

Thanks for looking! And reading my LONG story :) It's amazing how easily she just fit right into our family like she's always been here. We are very Blessed.

Thanks so much for sharing Denyse.  It sounds like you had a pretty good experience with the induction and things went quickly!!

The pictures are adorable!  Love the baby announcement too!

Thanks for sharing her birth story Denyse! Olivia is adorable & looks so healthy!! Both Naomi & Henry were here at the computer looking at the pics with me and saying "awww"! Olivia came out the way I did too, hands over my head, does not sound fun for Mom! Hope you're recovery is going fast and Olivia starts letting you get some sleep soon!
