My daughter will be 12mos.on May 28th.She goes to daycare full time, she will be moving up to the next class soon. Iam not very happy about this because of a certain teacher in that class. My best friend and I worked at this daycare about 7yrs. ago and this teacher was there also. She's probably about 80 yrs.old anyway when we worked there my best friend saw her hit a toddler. She went to the director and nothing was done about it.Then my best friend's daughter went there a couple of years ago hoping this teacher would retire by the time her daughter got in her class, but that did'nt happen. My friend fussed at the director about it so she finally moved this teacher to another class, but then she pitched a fit until the director let her go back in her class. My friend was told by a friend that worked there that this teacher had thrown a child up against a wall but she could'nt tell her if it was her child or not, that's when she took her daughter out.I hope this isn't too confusing. But now I don't know what to do.I don't understand why this teacher has'nt been fired. I know for a fact she's had tons of complaints about her. She's too old to be working w/ kids.I know the director won't do anything and I would call DSS,but when they go visit the daycare they always call ahead and let them know they're coming so they're on their best behavior.I really don't want to take her out ,I love the daycare except for this one thing and also my 3yr. old son goes there and loves it.I would really appreciate any suggestions of what to do.This teacher is so hateful and rough w/ those babies .I get upset just thinking about my daughter having to be in there w/ her.Thank you for reading this.

That can be such a hard situation to be in. I think that if you are truly worried about something happening to your daughter, then you shouldn't send her there. I mean, what if the next child that old woman hits is *your* daughter?

You have 2 problems here. First you have a "teacher" who is abusing children and then you have the supervisor of said "teacher" who is refusing to do anything to prevent children from being abused by this woman.

The law is a strange thing when it comes to teachers abusing children. The law (Federal) says that investigations of abuse by teachers *must* be done by police which means that calling social services or protective services is absolutely useless because they *can't* investigate and they *won't* refer the call to the police OR inform the parents that the appropiate thing to do is to call the police.

My advice, for what it's worth, is 3 part... First IF you choose to leave your children in this daycare pay special attention to any marks, bruises, tenderness, etc... that might indicate that this woman HAS harmed your child and if you find ANY at all call the nearest State Police office and file a complaint. Secondly, Make the director *aware* that IF this woman harms your, or any other, child in the classroom you WILL be calling the State Police AND that you will be encouraging *every other parent* who has a child in her classroom to do the SAME thing. Lastly, I would send a certified letter to the licensing agencys main office (wherever your state capitol is) detailing the KNOWN abuses of this person. The reason for doing this last step is so that you have *documentation* that you have attempted to resolve this matter and that the agency is *failing* to protect children.

For what it's worth...*I* would pull my child and inform the director that the reason that I was pulling my child from the daycare in question.

HUGE HUGS
