Next Wednesday I have a diabetic teaching class to attend and I'm kind of nervous because after that (and my anatomy sonogram...yay!) I have to see my doctor to be re-evaluated on whether or not I need to take insulin while I'm pregnant. I'm doing very well without any meds just controlling it with my diet and exercise (as long as I behave myself). I'm getting better and better at it. I DO NOT want insulin because I'm kind of scared to give myself shots. I've never minded needles but I really think I would mind putting them in myself!

It's amazing what you can do when you find that you have to. I was terrified at first too...the diabetes educator gave me one of those stress balls and showed me how to inject it...this was my training and practice. Later that afternoon I stood in my living room with the insulin pen poised by my tummy and cried and shook...I was "sure" I was not going to be able to do this. Now I am 36 wks pregnant...and have been injecting since the very beginning of my pregnancy...I hardly even think about it now when I do my injections four times a day. I actually think it hurts tons less than the finger stick for testing! Just take it one day at a time and know that you are much stronger than you think you are!!

Thanks so much for your advice! That really did a world of good for me because now I have an idea of what it would be like. I was totally in the dark on it. I'm still hoping I wont need the insulin, but after what you told me it seems very do-able. Thanks again for your support :o)

I started insulin as soon as I got my BFP (around 4 weeks) because of complications with pregnancies due to GD.  The first time I had to inject, I begged my Dh to do it.  He said he just couldn't.  I was tempted to get the neighbor who is an RN, but sucked it up and did it myself.  It was really EASY and I couldn't even feel it.

I am taking 3 shots a day and have figured out the best places in my belly where I can't feel a thing.  A couple of times I hit a sensitive spot and got a nasty bruise, but I remember well where those places were.

Hopefully the diet and excericise continues to work for you

Don't worry u will do fine...  I am 31 weeks and am a type 1 diabetic since I was nine...  It is scary with the pregnancy   but---it will work out..  If u have to give yourself injections-u will get so used to it.  If I did it when I was 9, I am sure you will do fine....  I am now on an insulin pump, and have been since I was 16.  Once you get over the transition-it's no big deal...  You will be fine.......  Good Luck!!!
