Hello everyone! I have been dealing with blood sugar issues for a couple of years prior to pregnancy because of very high doses of prednisone. I am not type 2 diabetic; however, I am insulin resistant, which of course causes issues during the pregnancy. Anyway, I've tested for quite some time, and I am discovering that based upon where I test on the finger (tip/pad v. side of finger a bit lower near bottom of fingernail) the results are rather different (sometimes more than 10 points). Has anyone else had this rather strange issue?? I'm obviously using the lower position as I tend to like those results a bit better ( ;-) ) however, I am concerned...
Thoughts????

I have had differences of around 5 points when I test different fingers. I've never tested different places on the same finger at the same time, but I have read that generally it's very common to get different results from different pricked sites. I think there's a "margin of error" in every meter and that the 10 point difference you're talking about could fall within that. Talking to your OB/MFM/dietician about your concerns is probably a good idea though! They can tell you which reading to use and help you feel comfortable that your meter is working properly. Good luck!

Interesting! I just read on another post about testing on other than the pad of your finger to make things less painful. When I read your post I had just tested for my one hour breakfast check and I was 118 on the side of my finger pad. I tested on the center of the pad on the same finger and it was 119. I wonder though about differences depending on where I test. I will hear from the program specialist later today as to whether or not I have to begin Metformin because of my high fasting levels. I will ask her about testing locations.
