I just heard from my GD program specialist that the doctor wants me to start on insulin in the evenings. I was originally told I would probably go on Metformin at night because my fasting levels are too high (95-100) most mornings, no matter what I eat at pm snack. Once the specialist contacted the program doctor she said she wanted me on insulin. There was no urgency as my levels haven't been that bad so I don't have an apt. until next Weds. 10/28.

I was concerned and just wondering what to expect and if anyone else has been in a similar situation. Did they use Metformin or Insulin? They said the insulin was safer for the baby as it doesn't cross the placenta but if I was opposed to giving myself injections she could probably talk to the doctor about doing Metformin instead. She did say Metformin is considered safe also but they aren't sure if it does cross the placenta. I have no trouble with the shots so I opted for insulin. I am 26 weeks and wondering if I will have to adjust the doses much or can I expect it to maintain pretty well throughout? My one hour levels are fine and I don't need to take the insulin now more than just at night to control the BS production then. How will this affect my pm snacks?

I know I will get my answers next week but I am just wondering about some advice for now.
