So I got a call from my midwife yesterday. She aparently had a meeting with all the other midwives in the birth center and decided that since I have gained 8 lbs in my 22 week pregnancy that I was too large for their care. I am so pissed off at them right now. I mentioned I was concerned about my weight from the beginning and she made it like it was no big deal, or that she could work with it. So now almost 6 months in, because of 8 extra lbs I am too large for her care?? I think she was planning to drop me all along but wanted to get in some appointments and take the money. So now I have to switch doctors and get to know someone all over again. A few weeks ago I heard that this exact same thing happened to another lady and thought it was rediculous and unheard of. Now I am wondering if it is standard practice to do this to larger women. Keep them in care until you don't want to be responsible for a high risk pregnancy and kick them out the door to another doctor.
Seriously, I was fat when I walked in the door, and I am still fat now...what did they expect?

sorry had to vent that out.

On top of that I am worried about feeling the baby move. I was feeling her for a few days and now I am not feeling much at all (since yesterday).I am 22-23 weeks, is it ok to not feel her everyday right now?? I heard that larger women have a harder time feeling the baby move regularly at first, is that true?

omgosh that is just wrong!! i would be sooo mad! Ya know am all for midwifes but I have been hearing so much of this crap lately and it totally makes me mad.. my gosh it's not like bigger woman have never had babies before and for the most part we do have healthy pregnancies.. anyways am so sorry hun.. as for feeling the baby it just all depends is this your 1st baby? that has a lot to do with it.. if it's your 1st it takes longer and it all depends on where baby is laying inside of you.. my 1st son was more in me so I didn't feel him more till I was 6mos-7mos along and my 2nd baby was out more and I felt him like at 8wks and Reece my last baby was more like 16wks.. so it just all depends on where they lay inside of you each one of mine laid different so it was just different for each one.. don't stress you will feel him/her soon enough and it's not cause your a larger woman it's just depends on how baby is in you! congrats on your pregnancy and I hope you find a caring Dr who is able to support you and your baby!

OMG! I cannot believe any doc or midwife would ever drop a woman from their care because of her size. Plus sized women have always been around we are not a "new breed" of women. I would be very ticked also. But to be honest, if she is the type of woman that would do something like this I wouldn't want her for my midwife anyway. Good riddance! I hope you can find another midwife or OB that is more professional. The nerve!

As for feeling the baby. It can depend a lot on positioning. Some babies find comfort near the placenta and so the kicks and movements may be absorbed by the placenta so you won't be able to feel them. Just bring it up to your next doctor. They'll probably do a non-stress test just to be safe.

Good luck in finding a new doctor!

Thanks ladies. I am mostly upset at the fact that she waited so long to tell me. I could have been seeing a different doctor/ midwife that would have actually planned on seeing me through birth. Oh well.

I started feeling her move again yesterday. It is so confusing as to where she actually is in there. My whole belly feels hardened and I seem to feel her everywhere. I will feel a kick in the  middle of my stomach, then a jab toward my lady parts. She has been pretty active so maybe she is just hitting all the spots she can :).  She is my first child so I am brand new to all these feelings. Thanks again for the help.

OMG! I can't believe a doctor would do that. There has got to be something you can do, that's discrimination!! How awful!! But like a previous poster said you don't want them for a doctor anyway if they are going to treat you like that. I hope you are able to find a much better one!

As for feeling the baby, I usually feel my little one everyday but it depends how strong they are, some days they are really faint and others this little one is doing summersaults in there! LOL Also if I've had a busier day I don't feel the baby as often because I've heard when you move around you put them to sleep. I only feel the baby when I'm sitting down, especially after I've eaten something or had something cold to drink. Try some OJ if you haven't felt anything in a while.
