For nat light photogs, what time so you prefer to shoot? I'm doing a fam of 12 and morning is out for them but now it's get dark around 5. What do you think a good time is to avoid harsh light but be light enough for me not to have to push the iso on my noise loving camera??

I'm a little unsure what you mean by when to shoot on location...if you are wanting to know for inside or outside.

I do my inside shots at 1pm for many reasons. I actually do them at my home studio and the light seems to be the best in that room between 1-3pm. Another factor is my little one is in bed napping during those hours. ;o)

For outside, before the time changed and it's getting darker earlier, I was doing outside shots around 5pm. There was still sun but not direct sun and there was still enough light. I'm not a morning person, so I don't think that I could ever do morning sessions at the hour after sunrise. But that's just me.

i'd say check to see what time sunset is EXACTLY. and do 1.5 hrs before. i ONLY shoot before sunset unless its a friend and a super crazy time crunch thing. before i was shooting at 6:30-6:45 and it was perfect. now sunset here is around 5:40 so i would do around 4pm. i ONLY shoot outside.

big groups means big opinions so expect everyone to have thier own ideas and want to test them out. expect people to be talking to each other while organizing a pose and have to get thier attention. doesnt matter if its adults or kids.

Same situation here and I'm scheduling all sessions at 3 pm, because usually two hours is plenty.  It's pretty dark between 5 & 5:30 here.

I agree that 3pm would probably be best, I hate that it gets dark at 5 now!!!
