Feb. Leap Year Luv Bugs '04

DYK- I did hold off on the Varicella vaccine, but ended up giving it to Maddi this past year, since we had been unsuccessful in contracting the actual disease.

DYK- I worry that the titer will fall and a booster will be needed long after the kids are out from under my "care".

DYK- For boys, it's not a big deal, but for girls it is because there is great danger in contracting the chicken pox while pregnant.

DYK- We tried for three years to catch the chicken pox and could not, so I had her vaccinated, but I would have much rather had her get the actual illness in this case.

DYK- No one gets the chicken pox any more! You can't catch it even if you are trying...:)

DYK- The only one I do not give my babies is the Hepatitis B vaccine. I see no reason to give that vaccine to a baby?

DYK- Plus, if you wait until they are teenagers, it's a two dose injection instead of three.

DYK- I do not see how my newborn/toddler could possibly contract Hep B????? So, I give that around 6th grade.

DYK- I also delayed the MMR for Maddi and Kaci, but other than those two, we pretty much vaccinate on schedule.

DYK- Sounds like you had a great time at the movies!

DYK- I would have loved to have gone with you. I haven't seen Toy Story in a long time, but it is one of my all time favorites. I have never seen the 2nd one.

DYK- I am glad that your blood sugar was good after your movie treats. Everyone deserves a treat at the movie!

DYK..all other vaccines I've done on schedule.

DYK..When I had Jenna not all vaccines were covered but I still payed out of pocket and recouped through my work insurance.

DYK..I had high hopes with her around all those chicken pox kids she would have picked it up.  Especially since she was spending 8-9hrs a day with them.

DYK..I never got the CP until I was 21!  Once my mom sent me over to a friends house for a sleepover for a close friend that had CP.

DYK- You are right that the thimerasol in vaccines, does break down into a form of mercury....I believe it's ethyl mercury, but it is a very small amount.

DYK- You are also correct in that the problem isn't with one vaccine, but with the cumulative amount of mercury ingested during a life time.

DYK- One important fact that I should mention is that when we hear about mercury poisoning, it's methyl mercury, which is very toxic, not ethyl mercury.

DYK- On another board I frequent, the women are arguing about the H1N1 vaccine. One lady who is dead set against it, which is her right and I respect that, and who is very vocal about how dangerous it might be, has a blinkie that reads something like' Heck yea I want my epidural".

DYK- I read her posts about the H1N1 vaccine and wonder if she has ever considered the effects of the epidural on her or her baby. The epidural is given specifically to make HER comfortable, but poses health risks and side effects to both mom and baby. There is no potential that the epidural could possibly keep her or her baby from contracting some deadly disease, that's not it's purpose. It's sole function is to relieve her from the discomfort of child birth.

DYK- I have a hard time wrapping my brain around the argument that I am not going to vaccinate my child to protect him/her from a potentially dangerous illness because of the possible side effects, but I will expose him/her to potential dangerous side effects for my own comfort during child birth? 

DYK- But again, I do believe that it's each person's decision and it's their right to make whatever decision is best for them with regards to vaccinating, even if I can't comprehend their reasoning.....:)

DYK I think it's like those Sour Patch kids but it's a long straw

DYK I was proud of Katie for at least eating more than 1/2 of a hot dog & then she donated the rest to me, so I just ate the hot dog w/out the bun & dipped it in my nacho cheese! :P

DYK she also shared my chips & was excited that I let her have some Coke Zero--she thought she was so cool for drinking a "Coke"!

DYK Toy Story 3 comes out in June

DYK they had a cool 3-D preview of the new Dickens' A Christmas Carol w/ Jim Carrey--digitally animated, & it looks good, maybe a bit too much for little ones but good nonetheless.

DYK I am so ready for Chris to get home...single parenting 24-7 is no fun!!
