Are they really worth the money?

If your child owns one, why did you choose AG over another, less expensive doll?

Are you satisfied with the purchase?

Cailyn really wants Kit, Gracie her dog (I think that was her name), the dog carrier and dog bed but it's going to be almost $200 with shipping.  Seems like a whole lot of money for a doll/accessories to me, but I'm willing to spend it if I can convince myself it's worth is.

Like Michelle, the thing is I don't know that Cailyn woud give a hoot a month after Christmas.

Well, here's my opinion...since you asked & all! ;)

Katie has Kit & Grace, the dog. She got Kit last year for Christmas & she still plays w/ it, takes it places, everything! Year before last, I got her one of the cheaper Our Generation dolls from Target. I thought they were pretty equal to the AG dolls. But, I think the main difference is the way they're made & the hair of the AG dolls is much, much better! My mom bought the special brush when we were at the AG store this summer, which helps too. Oh & since Kit has short hair, that's easier to manage. The Target doll's hair is a rat's nest & it stays in a ponytail!

Has Cailyn seen the movie Kit Kittredge? We saw it in theatres last summer which piqued her interest in the doll & my sister got Katie the DVD for Christmas last year.

Personally, I think they're worth the money. The craftsmanship is a higher quality, IMO.

BTW, I do like buying the Target clothes & other accessories for the dolls!

Since my girls don't play with their, I'd say no.  Taget's version is almost the same and just as nice, IMO.  Some girls love and collect the stuff, but not mine.  None of their friends are really into though.  If they were, it would probably be different.  Syd's actually into those Bakugan Balls....go figure!

I cannot say if the quality is still there or not, but I got MY American Girl doll in 1988 and she is still in excellent condition. Granted she now lives in a hat box in the attic (collector's item now), but she did see a few years of playing before I "got too old" to play with her.

If I ever have a DD I would have no problem getting her one of the dolls.

Hi,

I "myself" love...love... the American Girl Dolls...lol.  Never owned one but my nieces and plenty of other girls I have been around have had them.  They are of EXCELLENT quality and usually hold a pretty decent resale value (if your little girlie doesn't end up appreciating it- but doesn't destroy it either).  I have not purchased any for Kels but I may when she's a little bit older.  Some girls take to that type of doll and some don't.  I did buy three dolls that were similar to the A.G. and some really fun clothes and shoes for them, but I think I was the one who appreciated the whole "notion"... not Kels ..LMAO.   I believe it depends on if other kids have them, or if like Katie they can relate to the whole AG doll collection due to going to the movie or the tea party at the AG stores.  I guess I'm not helping any?  I know how it's a big consideration on this type of purchase.   If she's asking for it as something she really... really ...wants... I'd go for it :) Check into Ebay too...just to see if there are any "deals".  Let us know what you finally decide.

   Just as an aside...

Kels claims she wants one of those ride in "cars" this year.  It's sort of irritating because we had one that we bought from and then sold at a yard sale (like new condition) a year or so ago.  She hated it and told us to sell it!  Honestly,  I don't think we will buy another one.  She's sort of on  the verge of  being too big for it  very soon.  I think your Cailyn had a jeep, didn't she?

Kels is making her wish list already.  She wants- so far, the car/jeep, a swimming puppy, a monkey costume?, huge horse you can ride on, little pet shop house (comes with clothes and shoes for the pets), and some unicorns with a carriage and people that get married? and what ever comes on the tv while I'm around.   She is a total riot when she's asking me to write down her list.  I very much doubt I will do the car or horse.  She has a Cinderella type carriage thing she just "had to have" last year and doesn't use it...so most likely the unicorn carriage is a "no go" too. Those commercials on TV really do suck the kids in to want all those toys.  Last year I bought a doll house... with the eyes that move and the house talks.  It was around $80 but then you purchase all the stuff for it...adds up.  She uses it occasionally but not like I thought she would.  Most of her "play time" is spent with papers, pencils, crayons, paints, playdo, glue,  and scissors.... oh and "tiny toys".  She has a great easel by fisher price but doesn't really use it.  She's not much for playing with "dolls" :(    She likes to dance and puts on a variety of dance outfits to perform for us, but she has about 3 favorite outfits that she always chooses.  Oh and she loves to play outside digging and with toys in the dirt/sand. I always seem to end up buying things she doesn't really need or won't end up  using much, but this year I will really try to focus on only a few things.  My big boys usually want "pricey" items, but at least I know they will USE them.

Sorry I went rambling.  You just got me to "thinking" about the whole holiday season and money is pretty tight this year.  Maybe I should start a Wish list thread?

Have a great day,    Lee
