Pinar,

Congratulations on your son!! I'm sorry that you have to be here, but I'm glad you are looking for support. How is he doing health wise? What kind of support is he requiring? I will say a prayer for you both. Keep us posted on how he is doing and let us know if you have any questions or need any advise.

Kristi

Hi Pinar,

Congratulations on the birth of your son!!

It's ok to be scared....this IS a scary thing especially if you were not prepared at all for it. Take the NICU journey one day at a time. It is a roller coaster of sorts, but you can do it. My daughter was born at 28 weeks just over 2 years ago weighting 2 pounds, 10 ounces. She was tiny.

I normally write a longer welcome, but tonight I am exhausted and need to go to bed. I will write more to you later.

Know that you can always come to this board to ask questions, vent, yell, scream, rejoice....whatever. We know exactly what your going through.

Hi Pinar,

Congratulations on the birth of your son!  It is scary to have a baby born at 31 weeks and I'm sure most people cannot relate to what you're going through.    But when you get the chance, take a glance around the NICU.  It'll help you see that while it's SO SCARY, you're also really lucky!  31 weekers have an excellent prognosis, although the NICU road will certainly have its ups and downs.  You'll get great support from this message board, so keep asking questions!

I had 30 week twins a year ago.  The NICU was scary (6 and 7 weeks in) and we needed a lot of support and information to get through that time.  But, a year later, they are 100% normal babies.  Huge and thriving!  I will pray for the same for you!  I will also pray for your sanity during this trying time!  Hopefully the NICU has some preemie books and books on NICU stays you can peruse through as that information can make everything seem a bit less scary.

Good luck and congratulations again on your new baby boy!!

Kim

My Katie was born at 31 weeks, too. She was 3lbs. 7 oz. and had some breathing problems and a PDA heart murmur that was repaired with a heart catherization procedure when she turned 1-year-old.  I was terrified the first time I saw her and was so afraid of all the possible problems she could have.  However, now she is 19-months-old and is perfectly fine.  She is right on target for all her skills and shows no delays.  She is running, coloring, and talking a lot.  She is even starting to try to count.  I hope that everything will be O.K. with your baby!
