In all fairness, there's a lot more to this story than the prom. The prohibition against rock music is not uncommon among fundamental Baptist churches, although the prohibition against dancing is not as common as it once was. But every fundamental Baptist church I've ever been to practiced courtship rather than dating--I'm wondering what this young man is doing dating a woman? He's supposed to wait until the Lord reveals to him who he should take as a wife and then talk it over with his parents and pastor before finally asking her father for permission to court her. And "courtship" is not dating--it's more like a betrothal. You don't break a courtship unless there's something VERY wrong. So I'm wondering why he's dating like a normal teen-ager if he's supposedly a fundamental Baptist? I also have to wonder what he's doing dating a young woman who would wear such a revealing dress to her prom.
Personally, I think these prohibitions are ridiculous, but I also think this boy is picking a fight. It seems obvious to me that he is NOT a fundamentalist Baptist. Most likely, his parents forced him into going to that school in an attempt to make him "see the light" and he's been trying to get kicked out ever since his first day.
