My last post I mentioned my dh and I going through our house to get rid of stuff. I normally like having yard or garage sales but honestly, I think about having one right now and I have to say I would rather give the stuff away. Having the sale would be one more thing to add to my list of stuff I want to get done while the kids are away and I would much rather add a few relaxing activities than more work!

So I emailed a list of stuff to give away (dressers, car top carrier, dining table, desk etc) to all my friends and will see what happens. They may not want or need any of it but they may know someone who could benefit from some free items (like a single parent or someone who is in a financially difficult situation). I just want the stuff gone. I have decided to take the kids toys (really good items) to a local consignment store as well as some kid video's and books etc.

All the smaller items I am going to drop off at our local Salvation Army Thrift Store. I will take a few boxes/bags at a time each time I go out and soon our living room of give aways will be cleared out.

Any one else planning on yard sale or giving stuff away to clear their home of unwanted/unneeded items?

Sandra

Have you ever tried Freecycling?

I also don't like yard sales.... instead of a yard sale, you could have a "take what you want sale!"   wonder if that would work.....  I mean why not....

We have some stuff to give away but we are having to be creative giving it away.

The local Salvation Army (basically the only charity resale shop in town) announced on the radio that they were not taking donations, don't bring your stuff.

Freecycle here is very small and many things go unclaimed.

But "word of mouth give away" seems to work well. So I just have to line up people to give the things to. Ask around if anyone wants such and such you get the idea. Ans word of mouth give away works well for recieving to. just mentioning that you need something often ends with a friend bring it to you or calling asking if you want such and such.

When we were newlyweds and are friends were too (that or still college kids) it was easy to give stuff away we just had a free box at our house and when people would visit they would look and take what they needed.
