I sent an email to all my friends and told them to pass it on if they knew of someone who could use the list of stuff we had. One friend posted it on her employer's electronic bullentin board and by evening the same day almost everything was gone! I listed all the big ticket items and they went like hot cakes! LOL THe smaller items I just boxed up and took to the Salvation Army. Someone mentioned their local Salvation Army was not taking donations - unfortunately summer it an extremely busy time and depending on the size of the store/area for storage they have to stop donations from coming in as they cannot keep up (everyone seems to clean out their house in summer as well as what does not sell at garage sales ends up at the Sally Ann). Unfortunately as well, about 80% of what is donated is tossed (lots of people use the thrift store to dump stuff instead of taking it to the dump where it belongs).

Anyway it feels so good to be rid of the extra stuff. We have a couple bigger items left and will take them to the salvation army as well later in the week.

The email list is great.  We should definitely get one started around here.  People are always recycling stuff.  Once I get my health back, we're going to redo the bathroom, and I have this enormous scary mirror that I want to get rid of, but I'd love to trade it for some vanities with small mirrors.

I have never heard of the Salvation Army refusing stuff. At one time, we had a huge china cabinet that was made of solid wood and glass. Because it was solid wood and so huge, it was very heavy. We offred it to another charity but the charity was unable to pick it up and we were unable to take it there. I called the Salvation Army and arranged for their truck to come pick it up. Since I was already on the phone with the Salvation Army, I told them that I had some bags of clothes to give away. They picked up the china cabinet and the clothes at the same time.
