Both my husband and son take flax on a regular basis. I can't take it because it bothers me, but I have had surgery in which part of my intestines was removed and then relocated. So my system isn't normal.

Dh and Ds have had no problems with it, and ds often gets granola with flax added into it as a snack.

Hi Susan,

I take flax oil caplets bc of their Omega-3 content, as I don't eat any meat, including fish.  Flax has many benefits, but to benefit from the plant, you also need to consume the seeds.  There are contraindications for some, but most healthy people should be able to supplement with flax seeds and flax seed oils (NOT MEDICAL ADVICE HERE!!). Here's a few sites to check out. While Spectrum organics is a commercial site, they're also a trusted site, and they have a bibliography for further research at the bottom of the page.

thank you Stacey for replying.....   I was reading that it is better to buy flax seeds fresh in small portions and then grind then through a coffee grinder..... have you tried that?

I did read that when using flax seed oil that it has a shelf life of only two months,,,, so to buy small bottles of it.....   but even so I'm thinking of buying a small bottle to use on our evening salad.....  we use a nice olive oil now....  and sometimes a cuople drops of pumpkin seed oil which is very tasty.
