Dh is talking about me, him, and Eli driving up to Cherokee/Maggie Valley within the next few weeks to see the leaves changing. We are thinking about leaving 1 morning when he gets off of work, staying that night and spending most of the next day there. Is anyone from that area or familiar with it? We have only been to the casino a few times, but with a 3 month old that is out of the question for us this trip. I'm trying to find some good motels to stay at, some good places to eat at, and some good places to shop at. Can anyne offer me any help. We hope to go to Santa's Land, if we make it up there before they close for the season. TIA!

Well, you wouldn't be able to go to the casino, but the hotel is very nice if you wanted to just get a room there.  Other than that I don't know much about the hotels in the area since it's a day trip for us.  There are plenty of fun little gift shops, etc in Maggie Valley and Cherokee for shopping.  If you want more than that you'll have to head into Asheville to the mall.  While in the area you might also want to check out Dillsboro, it's a sweet little town just outside of Sylva.  Or you could catch a trip on the Great Smokey Mtns Railroad to see the leaves and do some sight-seeing.

We took a trip up there a couple of months ago with the kids. We stayed in a cabin at a KAO campground. It was on the river and very nice. With a store right there we just fixed all our meals there. And they did have a little kitchen that cooked meals also. Santa's Land was a bit of a disappointment for me but the kids liked it okay.

Thanks! Yes, our casino days are over, which I'm not sad about. LOL! I had forgot about the railroad. I think we may do that while we are there.

Thank you! I did not even think about the campground. I'm glad I did ask so I could get this information.
