Yay....a huge Celebration...
Finally, after a long time of arguing and begging and pleading that Gabe needs to be placed in a special ed program...he is going to get one. And it's the best of both worlds because not only will he get special instruction and have an IEP with a continuation for ST services...BUT he will also be in a class with NT kids. I have been asking for a program like this for a very long time. Ever since he turned 3. I do feel a wee bit irritated that I had to wait for so long...but none the less...he is finally going to get classroom time.
And because we live in PA...and it has taken the state so long to approve a new budget for special ed...the program he will be doing hasn't started yet. They are going to start on Nov. 2. Because Gabe has an IEP he will get ESY in the summer. The program he is going to do is with head start. We tried to get him in head start when he was 3...and we were denied based on income. When I asked about the IEP allowing him to attended head start I was told no. Well, that was a big fat lie. So, I am not happy about that either. I guess if I really wanted to I could sue the school for educational comp. time, but I don't even want to open that can of worms. I am just glad Gabe is going to get some special ed preschool time before kindy starts. That was we can tell where he weak areas are and his strong areas...and we won't have to go through half of kindy before we get things right for him. He will start kindy and we will already know where he stands.
I just am so happy about this....
