My dh and I went to the doctor for our routine 20 week ultrasound on Thursday, only to find out that our baby probably has spina bifida and club feet. We had all the tests, but they missed this diagnosis. As I'm sure you know, we are terribly worried and have to wait until our level II ultrasound and genetic counseling on Monday to find out where on our baby's spinal column is affected and how bad the diagnosis is.

We don't know very much about sb, just what we have found surfing the web. We have no idea what decision we will make for this little one, but think that finding some form of a support group can help us deal with this sudden news.

If you are lurking this holiday, and would like to share your story with me, I would be eternally grateful.

Carry

Hi Carry, I have a 7 year old son with SB. Like you I had never even heard of SB or so I thought. After I found out and began to talk to some friends I discovered he wasn't the only one. My friend was in a band and her manager has SB and I had met him before. He used a cane to walk. The singer John Mellencamp has SB. My son is not shunted and has had both of his clubbed feet repaired. He is cathed, but it's not a big deal to him. He goes to school and is on the honor roll and is 100% mainstreamed. He's funny, smart, and compassionate. Jared uses a wheelchair and a walker with braces that go all the way up to his waist called HKAFO's. http://pages.ivillage.com/glittergirl_76/id11.html Here is my un(oops)updated web page where you can find lots of pictures of Jared and his little sister. You are never ready for something like this to happen and I think it's great you are searching out support and info before the baby comes. It's nice when we find out we are not alone in this!!!
