Thought I would share what I'm doing with my 5 3/4 month old daughter.
We started solids close to 5 months. Only cereal for dinner for the first week. Then added cereal at breakfast after a week.

What we are currently doing right now...

Wake between 7-8am
Nurse both sides 7:30ish
Breakfast 1 hour later Cereal (Oatmeal 1/4 cup w/juice) and 1/2 jar fruit still on #1's
Nap
Nurse both sides 12ish
Nurse both sides 2:30ish
Nap
Nurse both sides 4:30ish
Dinner 1/2 hour later Cereal (Oatmeal 1/4cup w/ breastmilk) and 1/2 jar fruit and 1/2 jar veg.
Bedtime between 6:30-7:30 with last nursing on both sides

By her last nursing at night my milk is low, so she is just getting a top off for the night. With this nursing I now do not need to pump before bed and can go till morning without being full anymore. I was finding that giving her a bottle with 4-6oz. of breastmilk at bedtime was to much for her right after eating dinner 2 hours later. She was waking up after sleeping a hour crying I think with a stomach ache. I fine nursing her before going to sleep she gets what she wants from me and then just gets off when she has had enough.

Go for our 6 month appt. in two weeks. At her 4 month appt. she was 14.5lbs. I'm going to be interested in finding out when we to start adding the third feeding at lunchtime.

Hope this is helpful to anyone out there with feeding ideas.

Jen

A couple of words of caution. First, I've read that you should never give cereal in a bottle. It flows in quickly, so the baby has a harder time regulating how much to eat before feeling full. Plus, it prevents the baby from developing the eating skills needed to handle more solid foods.

Second, I'd suggest adding some green veggies (peas, green beans, spinach) to your babies diet. If you give the orange veggies too often your baby can actually start turning orange
and is probably getting too much vitamin A.

Here's what I do w/ my ds who just turned 7 months:

nurse 6 times per day

at lunch time he gets 2 tablespoons of a veggie and 4 tablespoons barley cereal mixed w/ 1.5 oz. expressed breastmilk

at dinner time he gets 4 tablespoons barley cereal mixed w/ 1.5 oz. expressed breastmilk

I also offer a few ounces of water each day in a bottle.

I read the other day that by 9 months, a child should have 3 solid meals per day and 2 snacks. Each meal should include cereal, a fruit or veggie, and a finger food.

Hope this helps!

Jessica
