We had our ups and downs while my dh was traveling, it can be hard. We are great advocates of writing down that 'pros & cons' list. I hope you can figure out what might work best for you and your family.

One thing that helped us a lot was cameras for the computer. It was good for all of us to see each other when he was out of town.

Let us know how you decide because you can find some great support on this board if you need it!

Thanks for checking on me...how nice to have a stranger that is interested.

we are still in a holding pattern...the decision has been made to go with the new position, but b/c of the nature of the profession, not all the details have been put in place.  Hopefully by the end of the month, we'll know some more.

we do know that there will be some out of town time for the first 5 months - probably 1 or 2 nights/week.  That's doable...a matter of adjusting schedules and going about our regular routine.  Probably, beginning in January, travel time will increase significantly - more than 4 nights/week.  that will be a big adjustment for all of us.  Our children are very attached to daddy and will miss their time with him during the week.

I am considering leaving my job at the end of next year to have more time at home and to ease the transition.  the juggling of sitters, schedules, etc., seems too overwhelming right now.  My husband has always been a very involved parent, so losing 1/2 of our team is daunting.

we are working on expectations that we have of each other and ourselves.  i want to be very clear up front with what i need (or what i think i need right now) and i also want to make some promises to my husband, too....

all in all, we don't really know what to expect and we'll be learning along the way.

Glad you stopped by :-)

Is he excited about his new position? It is very hard to work and keep a job when your husband is gone and you have small children. We are here if you need anything!

As far as leaving your job, that might be a good option if you can afford it.  I just did this myself when dh took his new position.  I knew there was no way I could juggle my old job, daycare, sick days for my ds and any other events that might come up while dh would be gone for extended periods.  Now that he's actually gone I'm sure that I did the right thing.  Maybe someday when I'm more adjusted to this lifestyle I can revisit the decision but for now this is what I need.  Good luck with whatever you decide.

Brooke
