DH and I have been married for 5 years and I have always had jobs with a little travel here and there...but usually for a week or so every few months...nothing too crazy. Well, I just got a new job and once I get fully trained I will be away for 3-8 weeks at a time and then home for 2 weeks and then back on the road. As the pending reality of this new position comes into focus, I'm getting worried. Most of my travel is international, so all communication will probably go through skype and our timezones will be all confused.

So I've some to find out your coping skills. What do you do to stay connected to your spouse? How do you share your life moments when there's a countryside or an ocean between you?

Hi! Welcome, we are glad to have you here. All the ladies at Coping While Spouse Travels are extremely supportive.

As far as staying in contact. The ladies are sure to gave some great advice. My husband travels overseas as well and we sometimes just talk once a week and email when he gets a chance. I send him little e notes every day to let him know what is going on with the kids etc.

My husband has video taped special messages for the kids and he made them a build a bear, his voice recordings tell the good night sweetheart I love you etc.

When we were dating he made me one too at build a bear LOL! So the kids and I each have one and we sleep with them.  We do little cheesy things like I hide a note in his suitcase etc.

Hi and welcome.  My dh also travels overseas and right now he's at a location where we have the ability to skype.  He's several hours ahead of me where he is this time and so we skype as often as we can, email whenever we can, and I write as many letters (even if they're short notes) as I can.  We just talk about everything day to day, even little things like what are you eating, etc, and we count down the time to when we're going to see each other again and plan the things we want to do when he's coming home.  Communication has been really important to us, no matter what form.

Good luck and stick around for support.  :)
