I'm a school teacher, so the closer to the end of the school year the better. We're shooting to start trying in July/August/September of 2010. I'm working now to prep....taking prenatal vitamins, trying to lose the extra weight, eating organic and cutting bad foods...I'm wondering if anyone has any advice to help prepare and to help along the way. I am hoping to start charting and go off the nuvaring after the new year, but was wondering if anyone had any additional ideas. Thanks!

The most important piece of advice I can probably offer is to try but do not get yourself set that you will get pg during the specific window you want. Unfortunately we have no control over it and it can make things even more stressful. I was a prime example of that. I really wanted a May baby. I was lucky and did get pg with a due date during the month of May and then had a miscarriage at 8 weeks. 

It is very important to remember that we have no control over when we will be blessed. I think that your plan so far sounds pretty good though, getting yourself healthy before hand. I would also start charting when you go off of nuvaring so that way you can learn your cycle. www.fertilityfriend.com is a great resource where you can learn how to chart and keep track of your charts online. They offer both a free and pay for membership.  

Good luck and I hope you are able to get pg durig the time window you are hoping for.

Thank you so much! I am really trying to go about this very pragmatically. You're totally right about over planning. I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, and I see that you're a prime example of light at the end of the tunnel. I'm currently taking prenatal vitamins, and have an appointment in December with my GP. I plan to ask about prescription prenatals, but I am curious about any other questions I should have for her. She also does my gyno exam. Any thoughts?

I would have my yearly exam from your gyno, pap etc... Other than that there really isn't any testing that they will do for you just yet since you haven't really started trying yet. There really aren't any questions I can think of, other than the prenatals and what other vitamins would be helpful. I would start charting as soon as you stop the nuvaring so you can learn your body.

Thanks so much for all of your help. I'm in special education and while I love each and every child that I work with, I spend every day this school year obsessing over creating the best possible vessel for our baby. I'm taking this too far, and really just need to relax and enjoy the ride. (laying off all of the different research studies would probably help as well)
