Afraid of H1N1?

I'm about 2 days from being able to test and find out if I am pregnant, and I have been worrying ever since DTD...

I have tried to get vaccinated but they only had the intranasal ones which are not allowed if you are pregnant.  For the injected kind, they only have it for pregnant women... with CONFIRMED pregnancies. *sigh*

I feel caught between a rock and a hard place!  I couldn't get the one because I might be pregnant (and they are now out anyway) and I cannot get the other because I might NOT be pregnant.

I worry that I am doing wrong even trying to get pregnant right now.

BIg Hugs and good luck in 2 days! I hope you get that BFP and then you can get the shot.......
I know this won't ease your mind but I kind of think that the mass panic for H1N1 is a wee bit out of control right now. Yes, it is a concern but I also think that the media is making the panic more then it needs to be. Make sure you are washing washing washing your hands and keeping them away from your face, stay away from big crowds until you get your shot, and get lots of rest if possible! I really believe that keeping your system as strong as possible with sleep and good nutrition etc. will help us to keep our immune systems healthy and able to fight. That said, I know the vaccine is a very important thing and we need to get it. Try to stay calm and not worry too much - it is hard but I think the chances are you will be fine. For what its worth, I think we had some version of that flu in our house already and after 2 or 3 miserable days, everyone is fine. I have read that 99% of people that get H1N1 will be fine after 3 or so days. It is the 1% that we keep hearing about on the news - terrible and sad for sure but calm heads need to prevail. Oh and for my last comment, I think the worst place for any of us to be right now is in a doctors waiting room or clinic line up etc with the masses of humanity. Better to stay away and wait a few weeks for it to hopefully calm down a bit.

I am no doctor and so that is just my opinion on it all.

I wish you a BFP, your vaccination, and a happy and healthy pregnancy when it comes.
Hugs, Jasmine

I agree that H1N1 is way overblown. I work in a PICU, and we have seen plenty of cases, but relatively few deaths (I see more from ATV's and car accidents by far).
What I would do is: if you get a bfp, get vaccinated. If you become sure you're not pregnant, get the intranasal as soon as they have it, preferably before you o again. That way, you won't worry next cycle. I'm assuming the vaccine you're talking about is the inactive virus (I think they all are in the US, but in other countries, maybe not). In that case, it should not in any way be a risk to you or the baby. People are all worried that it hasn't been tested for very long. I would worry about that with a live virus, where you have the potential to get sick from it. With an inactive virus, there is no potential to get the illness. So, you're really looking at the other ingredients that are in the vaccine, and my understanding is that they are the same as in the regular flu shot. I would ask your doctor all of these questions, and do what feels the best to you.

I hope that helps,

Sunday

Just wanted to tag onto Sunday's post.  I also believe that the numbers originally projected for h1n1 have proven to be quite high-- and typically the symptoms of swine are not worse than seasonal flu...

Anyway, there are currently 4 vaccines on the market for h1n1:  1 IS A LIVE VIRUS and others are NOT tested on BF-ing moms.   I am attaching a link with ALL of the vaccines and their packet info.  If you scroll down, you'll find h1n1.  Hopefully, this will allow you to make a more informed choice and be able to ask your dr.the right questions.

good luck.

A lot of people here have had H1N1 and it seems to be like regular flu.  In fact, they don't even test everyone.  My friend's dh had it and missed a couple of days of work.  We all have had the flu and not even sure if it was or not.  Between all of us all the symptoms were there but who knows.

They are out of shots here at least the mercury-free ones that I will only consider.  The cdc has been warning not to go to H1N1 parties(get exposed and get it over with) to which I said "So I suppose they are also against Chicken Pox Playgroups?"  Around here, people are looking for ways to get exposed to that.

Every year dh gets a flu shot and I and the kids don't and it's the same thing.  He catches everything sore throaty with coughs and I can't pass up an opportunity to throw up.  And here I am seeking 15-17 weeks of throwing up!! But at least the end result is beautiful!!!

We are just trying to eat really healthy, get rest and avoid needless exposure to the masses.
