Hi all, my name is Emily. New here and have a situation/question for you...

So, on the same day I even find out I'm pregnant (1-2 months in), I also find out that I may have miscarried. A couple of days ago I started to bleed clots and an extremely watery blood discharge that soaked through any pads I used to try and stop it. They have already done the 1st round of blood work and tomorrow I go back for the 2nd round to see what's going on. My doctor, trying to be optimistic I guess has told me that because I don't have any pain accompanied with the bleeding that I'm probably fine. Except I never have pain. I don't even get cramps with my normal period, nevermind.

This morning when I woke up, some more light bleeding and an odd pain on my left side only. Just a little pinch feeling. As quick is it comes is as quick as it goes away. This is my first time ever being pregnant but I honestly just don't feel right. I don't feel pregnant, I don't feel anything. I know something is wrong and I'm not sure if the doctors/nurses are just trying to keep me positive but I wish they would just give me the facts straight up. This baby was not planned, my husband and I are newlyweds and although we're not ready for a child at the moment, I still need to know.

After doing some research on my symptoms, ectopic pregnancy was the first result to my searches. Can someone shed some light on any symptoms they may have experienced and whether or not pain is an absolute requirement of miscarriage?

Hi Emily.  I'm sorry that you're experiencing this at all.  The uncertainty doesn't make things any easier, does it?  I hope that the doc is continuing to monitor you, either with hcg tests, u/s, or preferably both.

FWIW, I'm pretty similar to you, painwise.  My ectopic ruptured and my belly was filling with blood, and I still didn't have any pain.  So, while most women will have at least some pain, not everyone does, and an ectopic can't be ruled out based on "no pain."  If you feel that the doc is brushing you off, keep hounding them until you have answers.  Sad to say, but this board (and probably countless others as well) has plenty of gals whose docs brushed them off and didn't pursue the ep diagnosis.

Regardless of whether you end up with ep, or you're having a m/c, we're here to help in any way we can.  Many of us have experienced both, unfortunately.  I hope you'll have some clear answers soon as to what is going on.  {{{HUGS}}}

I would ditto every word of Susan.  My ectopic ruptured at 8wks in 2000; i've been on this board since 2003 still trying to grasp the trauma.

Hopefully, this is just a funky pregnancy resulting in a fat healthy baby, but I do see a shadow of your symptoms.  I flat out told the doctor that I thought it could be EP.  The numbers were rising, but only in bits.  When the bleeding and "pinching" started, the doctor said that I needed to deal with the loss.  2 weeks later, I went to the ER believing I was hemmoraging from a m/c, only to find out the tube had ruptured.  Until that trip to the ER I was walking and talking with no real pain.

If you feel like something is not right, and your doctor is not offering to do a 48 hour blood draw, then I would ask for a referral.

Hope it all turns out well for you- we are here either way.

hi im going through the same thing right now the docs dont know yet if it is a m/c or ep. i do have pain and bleeding. they tried to do a vag ultra sound but could not see the fetal. they said to early to see and because of the blood. im not sure what to think or how to feel im kinda confused right now. monday they are going to do more blood work to find out if it is a m/c. everyone is different so you may not have pain doesnt mean your good. sometimes we have to stick with our instincts hope all goes well with you
