I was just recently dx with an ectopic pregnancy. I am devastated for odd reasons. I am upset the pregnancy did not happen, yes, but more so scared of it not being able to happen, ever. I am currently on the methotrexate and feel like I have a severe flu. Anyone with any encouragement, please?!

I'm sorry you're going thru this, but I'm glad you found our board and I hope we can help you get thru it.  We all have ep in common here and we can understand.  I didn't have mtx, but I would say that probably the way you're feeling is the effect of the medication.  I've heard other gals report similar symptoms.  Everyone really responds differently to it, so it's hard to say exactly how it will affect you.  Hopefully you'll only need one dose.  Feel free to update us as you're going thru the process.

As for having more pregnancies...I'm not saying this to be trite, but it WILL happen for you.  I can only think of a couple of gals from here who've never gone on to get pg after ep.  Almost all of us have, tho.  Sometimes it takes time, which is frustrating when you've experienced loss.  My ep was my first pregnancy, and I've had three pregnancies after it, tho one of those ended in m/c.

I hope you'll let us know how you're doing. We're here for you.

I'm so sorry for your loss (((Hugs)))

I had both the surgery for a ruptured ectopic AND the metho a month later when my numbers wouldn't go down all the way. The metho basically made me lose my appetite for about a week and my stomach was sore/achy all over but it does get better. Make sure they follow your hcg #'s all the way to zero and remember it's common to see them rise at first. If you have a lot of pain, feel free to bug the doctors to check you out to be safe! It's what they are there for!

As far as encouragement- I think I can help ;) It took me 2 years after my ep but I DID get pregnant again. I'm currently 20 weeks with a healthy girl. I was a bit different though- I had lost a tube and had wacky ovulation the whole time so it took longer than "normal".

If you're worried you could always request an HSG after your first AF to make sure your tubes are clear and ready to go for ttc. I think those are smart for every ep survivor really.

Well I was administered the methotrexate that Monday and on Friday I was retested and found it wasn't working. Friday evening they removed my ovary with the pregnancy in it. I am frustrated and angered and terrified I won't be able to have children... now more than ever. I have been home since the surgery and feel so lost. I am tired of feeling sick and being sore.

Awwwwe Hon- I remember that so well. ((((Hugs))))) The soreness does get better and time will help lessen the heartache. It's okay to take time and feel however you feel.

As far as getting pregnant again- you still have 1 ovary and 1 or 2 tubes right? That is certainly enough to get the job done. Some things they might do in that situation is an HSG to make sure tubes are good to go. Then you can either try naturally for awhile or they have a medication called clomid that induces ovulation so they can encourage your remaining ovary to ovulate predictably. With ovulation and a clear tube you have JUST as much chance as any other woman.

It certainly does feel like the end of the road though, but be assured it's not (((hugs)))
