I know that this is a board for loss of pregnancy because of ectopic, but I figured if anyone could answer my questions someone who has went thought it could. I am 9 weeks and 4 days pregnant and have been having a dull ache on one side pretty much since I have been pregnant. I occasionally have streaking pains in different areas of my stomach. I have no other symptoms. No spotting or anything. My question is when did you have the first signs that it might be ectopic and what were your first signs. I appreciate any responses. I am pretty sure my mom had an ectopic pregnancy and this is why I am concerned. Thank you so much.

Sunshine

Hi Sunshine.  You definitely are not the first worried pregnant woman to come here with questions and concerns...and you are most welcome here.  I do hope that everything will go well with your little one.

I think that most of us exhibited signs of ectopic pregnancy well before the 9 week mark, as usually the tube will rupture when the baby gets too big.  Every woman's symptoms are different, but in general, bleeding and pain are things that would be worrisome, as well as HCG levels that might not be doing the normal thing.  (My ep started with spotting that increased to heavy bleeding...empty uterus on u/s...and eventually ruptured after a couple of weeks.  I'm pretty sure it was all over by 8 weeks but it was 13 years ago so the details as to what week and all are fuzzy by now.)

Have you seen your doctor yet at all?  You certainly can mention your concerns and maybe they'll do an u/s to confirm baby's position.  Aches and pains are a normal part of pregnancy, and some women will also have a cyst from ovulation that causes discomfort.  Your doctor should be able to help you know whether your symptoms are of concern.

Feel free to ask questions...we are here to help.

Hi & Congratulations :)

To me it sounds like the side pain could be your corpus luteum cyst which forms from where your egg ovulated and makes the progesterone for early pregnancy. The more random streaking pains could be what they call round ligament pains which are basically the muscles that hold up the uterus hurting from the new weight & growth of it. I've had both of these pretty badly this pregnancy and am perfectly healthy :)

BUT I would always tell my doctor and ask for confirmation in some way- an u/s can confirm that baby is snug where they should be and can see a cyst too- then you'd know for sure.

I think most ectopics cause problems before 9 weeks so the fact you are that far along is very encouraging :) I think I was 6 or 7 weeks when mine ruptured. I had had a 'period' when it should have been so didn't know I was pregnant at all and the only symptom was the pain at the time of rupture.

Thank you ladies for replying to me.  I actually went to the docs today because I just couldn't take the cramping and he said everything looked ok with the baby cause he had to do an ultrasound. The baby is where it should be, had a heart beat, and dated back to my first day of my last period. So everything is great. Thanks again and good luck to both of you.

I'm so glad everything looks good on your u/s.  Hopefully your pregnancy will continue uneventfully.  I'm glad we could help reassure you.
