Broken thermometer???

Hey ladies!  So I have been charting since Aug '08 and I've been using the same BBT thermometer.  The past 6 months or so I have only been temping once I get my +OPK just to confirm O.  I got a very +OPK on 10/11, but never got a temp rise.  My temps have been very low the past couple weeks (usually under 97) - which isn't very typical.  I've never O'd later than CD 24 and I'm now on CD 30.  I'm starting to wonder if my thermometer is broken?  I just took my temp during the middle of the day and it was only 97.01.  Isn't the normal temp 98.6??  I'm almost wanting to go buy another thermometer to check.  Ugh....very frustrating!

Any insight is appreciated!

Hey--I would change your battery in the thermometer or get a new one. Mine wasn't that expensive at Target, and it really could be the problem.

My normal day time temps were around 97.5, so I think there is a "normal" for each person. Even years ago, a fever for me was about 99 b/c my temp was normally so low. So, don't let that freak you out.

This temping stuff can really get to you sometimes. So I would change your thermometer and see what happens. When do you think AF will show if you aren't pregnant?

Good luck and hang in there!!!

Andrea

Well if my thermometer isn't broken, then I haven't O'd yet which is crazy for me.  I usually O CD 18-22 (24 being the very latest).  So I'm now on CD 30.  I don't know what to expect?  I will probably just go get a new thermometer since they are only about $7-8.  I hate all the craziness that is TTC! =)

Hi Amber!

I think you should go ahead and get a new thermometer. They're cheap and it will put an end to your doubt. As for normal daytime temps, I agree with Andrea - it varies from person to person (I had to go online to convert to Celsius to understand your post - LOL!

If the problem is not your thermometer, you could be having a longer than usual follicular phase, which doesn't necessarily mean there's anything wrong. Could be caused by stress, lack of sleep, extreme changes in diet or exercise.

There is a bright side: if you didn't temp, you'd start thinking you were late and keep breaking your heart with BFN's.

Hope you solve this mystery and, if you haven't O'd, I hope you do soon (a later O is just as good, so keep up the BD and FX!)

I temped back in July/August while I was off BC and my temp was a lot higher, now I am temping in October and my average temp is 96 or 97. I am chaulking it up to the fact that it's getting colder and I sleep downstairs. Could that be it? It looks like you have be charting for awhile, but maybe it was a temperature switch with the weather?

Good luck! Let us know how it goes when you buy the new thermometer.
