Will, or would, the H1N1 scare change your plans for an unassisted birth? Would it effect your plans, but by making you more determined to stay out of the hospital? What are your thoughts?

I am trying to stay away from medical establishments at the moment because of so many sick people being there with their germs. Actually, I've been having a little problem with the heel of my left foot but I haven't wanted to go in to the doctor because I don't want to pick something up in the waiting room!

I didn't even think about laboring women being in that environment, though. I'd hope that at least maternity wards would be somewhat isolated. I have heard of hospitals lately not allowing visitors in maternity wards.

Here the NICU screened before allowing admittance for children, signs of impending sickness are relatively easy to spot. A regular hospital could do the same thing.

The maternity hospitals are isolated ANYWAYS. The hospital systems are just THAT different.

IF something happened it would not sway me away from getting help, but the small town "everything" hospital I had 1 of my boys in stateside, uh huh, can you say midwife, uh yep thought ya'll could!

From what I've heard, though, you can be contagious with the flu two days before you start showing symptoms.

They check some stuff I've never heard of checking. Sorry NAK, not runny noses, bp & pulse type stuff.
