Can I please get some feedback on this plan? I have a feeling I may have to change doctors as mine is wanting to do an IV and continuous fetal monitoring once I get to a point where I am wanting to remain in the bed (according to him that will happen). He also wants to do an Episiotomy should it become what he says "medically necessary". I am so bothered by this. I have had him as my doctor for 12 years and am truly disappointed that he is this way.

Anyways, here it is:

I do not want an IV for fluid intake unless medically necessary. I will agree to have a port placed in my vein so that should something go wrong, medicine will be easily accessed. I will maintain hydration with ice chips and water.
I plan on having a natural and unmedicated birth. Do not offer me pain medicine. I will notify hospital staff if I change my mind. If I ask for pain medication, please offer to check my cervix before administering and inform me of my current level of progress.
No continuous fetal monitoring unless it is required for fetal distress. I will however agree to have continuous monitoring once I decide that I am ready to stay in the bed and not get up to move around, get in the shower, take a walk, etc.
Do not rupture the amniotic membrane unless there are signs of fetal distress.
I want to use mother-led pushing and follow my urges.
I would prefer to deliver in a position that is the most comfortable, which may not be on my back.
NO EPISIOTOMY. I understand that I may tear and I am okay with that.
After the birth of our baby, I want my husband and me to have time alone (no family, friends, etc) in our room together for approximately 45 minutes to an hour.

Needless to say I took some bits from plans listed throughout the post.

THANKS!

I think it looks good. The only thing I would say is to put the 'do not offer pain' meds at the very, very top and make it noticable (bold, color, ect)

I'm gonna go ahead and encourage you to at least look at some doctors...that doesn't mean you HAVE to change. It doesn't sounds like he has much faith in you or experience with unmed births :(

I so, so, so wished I would have changed with #1. However, I didn't want to make her feel badly...hello, it is MY birth! LOL. At least check some others out. You might find someone that is really, really supportive (and experienced). I'd hate for you to have things go off of what you hoped and you saying, "What if..." KWIM?

GL!

Thanks for the input. I've decided that I am going to stay with my doctor. I am just going to refuse IV fluids and refuse the EFM until I decide that I am ready to be stationary....and if I want to get up, well I will!!! LOL I will also DEMAND that he not do an episiotomy. Otherwise, I think I am good to go! Well...not just yet but I will be!! hehe

I would appreciate some feedback on my attached birth guide. I've already given it to my midwife, but I want to make sure it doesn't seem over the top (she agreed to it much faster than I anticipated... not sure if that's a good or bad sign).

I think it looks good! The only thing I would say is to do something to make the 'no pain medication' pop out, kwim? Bold it or a different color or something.

Looks good...have a great birth!
