I want to have an unmedicated birth for my 3rd and last baby. I am due the end of November. I caved when transition hit with my last two. I had my epidural and DS #1 was born an hour later (his labor consisted of coupling contractions the ENTIRE time), DS#2 was born 40 minutes after the epidural and he was an induction with pitocin! I REALLY want to make it all the way through this time. I have expressed to my DH my wishes so that he doesn't beg me to get the epidural like he and my Mom did the last 2 times.

My problem is, because we at one time decided we didn't want a 3rd baby, we got rid of all of our baby stuff. We have to buy everything all over again. This leaves no money for things like a doula or a Bradley or hynobirthing class. I would like to learn as much as I can from home and I would also like to try to get a doula in training. They typically do births for free because they have to do so many to earn their certification. Anyway, I am looking for hypnobirthing CD's, DVD's or class pamphlets that people have. maybe someone who is done having babies has some? I'd even be interested in Bradley Method information that someone obtained from a class. I would greatly appreciate all the help I can get. I am VERY serious about this birth! I will be picking up some books, but I think I could really benefit from seeing a DVD or listening to a relaxation CD that I can take with me to the hospital. Thanks!!

Welcome!

I hope that you can find someone :) Have you looked on ebay, craigslist, or freecycle? A local teacher might be willing to give you a discount, as well.

GL on finding a doula, as well. Some areas have grant money set aside for doula use. Do you know if there a doula organization in your area that would be aware of that? The hospital may know, as well.

Hi Rachel,

If you visit the HypnoBirthing.com site, you can get Marie Mongan's book, the Rainbow Relaxation and Affirmations CD that parents who take the program receive.  However, HypnoBirthing doesn't have a home study program, those materials are supplemental to the class.  However, some moms do use those things since it's all they have access to.

Bradley does not have a home study course or any DVD's. The Bradley organizations sells DVDs of Bradley births to instructors, but there are no instructional DVD's, you can only get a Bradley course from an instructor.  If there is no option for a class, some couples will read Husband Coached Childbirth and Natural Childbirth the Bradley Way.

If finances are what is keeping you from taking a class, I would suggest contacting instructors anyway - some of us do offer discounts, payment plans, some even offer scholarships or barter arrangements.  Most childbirth educators I know say that they would not turn someone away based on their ability to pay, but we have to know that you are in need.

Good luck!
