Well, I hardly if ever watch TV. We don't have cable, but do PBS, DVDs/videos (mostly from the library or borrowed from friends who borrow ours) and the like...I get my news from the Internet and that's it, pretty much. Somehow our lives are still quite full without the TV! Couldn't stand that situation you describe though, it would absolutely get on my nerves.
