Do you encourage word play....such as Mad Libs, writing with chalk, or a stick on the beach...or playground sand, Art can lead to reading and writing to study the art/ or artist. Computers....e-mail, letters to relatives, all that. How about theater? They can act out a story, then they may want to write a story to see acted out...that works wonders here. My oldest is all about character development and her good friend and her talk and e-mail about there characters. She also writes notebooks full of stories. She loves to sketch as well, anything Art gets her going. She started learning Guitar and soon I hope to teach her to write songs....Art and writing go hand and hand. Reading is a skill needed to use what you write to make it into a dramatic action with actors. Music is needed to set the mood for your theater experience...thus Art creates more Art and also teaches real skills. Enjoy!!
