Hi - Now my oldest DD7 is home for the summer from school and I am looking for ways to keep her mind energized, while still keeping DD3 busy. I am trying to apply some of the unschooling philosophy to my oldest even though she goes to school during the year.

Anyway, she is going in Grade 3 and is fascinated with Egypt. Particularly she is interested in mummies. I have found some good stuff on National Geoegraphic - any other online resources you can suggest ? I have found a number of good books and plan a trip to a museum which has a small Egyptian exhibit.

PS - does anyone else find summer tiring? I feel guilty even saying that !!

Ann

My publisher has a series of hands-on history books, one of which is about ancient Egypt. It's good! You can download it - along with a number of other hands-on history books for free, here: http://www.wowio.com/users/product.asp?BookId=601&txtSearch=nomad&cbBrowse=0

Disclaimer: I write for this publisher and my books are also available on the site I mentioned.

Hope this is helpful!

Hi Ann,

My DD is obsessed with Egyptology too.

Our library has a TON of videos (both kids and adult) for checkout. That is fun, then she can actually see the stuff.

I know that on Google Earth you can view the real Pyramids and Sphinx (blurry but neat).

Also the best books I have found are in the Art section of the Adult Books. We have 2 right now that are amazing. It has so many beautiful pictures of EVERYTHING, in the Egypt section of the library you are going to run into more research books (with wonderful pictures just a lot of writing).

The IMAX in Austin is showing a movie that we will be seeing for her 7th birthday.

It helps that I love Archaeology too, so I can't complain.

Have Fun!
Beth

Thanks to everyone for the great suggestions. I never thought about Google - what a great idea. I tried google maps - I just have to figure out how to use Google Earth - I need to download something.
