Availabilty of the H1N1 vaccine

We stood in line for 7 hours yesterday to get the vaccines at a LA county Public health clinic. We had stood in line at another clinic for 3 hours on Friday, before being turned away because they ran out of vaccine.

They were pulling pregnant woman out of line to vaccinate first. Otherwise vaccines were available to people between 6 months and 24 years, people with children under 6 months at home, and people 25-65 with chronic health conditions.

We chose to go to the public clinic, because my pediatrician's practice is small, and has no idea when they will get any of the vaccine. My friends who have Kaiser, have had no trouble getting that vaccine or their children with little or no wait.

How are other people's experiences?

We haven't gone yet, but will be.  They are severely restricting who gets the vaccine right now here in Ontario.  I wouldn't be able to get it, but 4 of our 7 kids will be able to.  I think I read it's expected to get better in mid November

We are off to the doctor on Friday, we'll see if they will vaccinate us, that is, if they have any.  If they don't, I will take a day off work and go to a clinic.  I am most concerned about Andrew...he's the one who always has the worst trouble when he gets sick.

It's been hard here, too.

It was given through the public schools until they ran out - my 7 year old got his at school. Our pedi had two shipments - one was mist which my DD couldn't take b/c she just had flumist. But, the next shipment they emailed me on a Thursday at 4 pm and when I called at 9 am the next morning for an appointment it was gone.

Our health care providers haven't gotten it yet either - still waiting for the hospital shipment.

It'll come - but a lot of it may be "too late" to prevent a lot of spread.

We are seeing around 250 daily with it in our ED at the local children's hospital.

I got the nasal mist version of H1N1 for my older 2 (13 and 14 y.o.) at our local public school at a clinic this past Saturday.  They go to parochial school and the district recently opened it up to the non-public students.  I'm still trying for my 2 year old.  She's signed up for the seasonal shot this Saturday at the pediatrician's office.  They also have limited H1N1, but are reserving it for high risk patients and she is not in that category.  Still looking for the seasonal shot for the older 2.

At the H1N1 clinic, I was interviewed by the local TV station and put in my 2.5 cents on getting vaccinated and how I don't have any concerns about the safety.  Missed it on the news myself because I was watching the Phillies lose on Saturday night :(, but some people said they saw me.

Experiences seem to vary a lot depending on your location in the US. At our local health department, they seem to have varying amounts of vaccine depending on the day of the week even! I received notification about a H1N1 vaccine clinic for health care providers the Monday AFTER the Saturday it was held on. LOL. They have another vaccine event for health care providers this weekend that I plan on going to so we'll see how crazy it is.
