Our reversal is done :-) (Dr. Roeder)
I am so excited to say that my husband just had his reversal done on Sept 24 with Dr. Roeder in New Braunfels, TX. Anyone who is considering Dr. Roeder as your Dr. of choice, rest assured that you will be very happy with him (and his staff). He is a genuinely nice man with a very positive outlook. My husband had a lot of scar tissue and quite a gap between the vas ends. As a result, the surgery took a bit longer than usual and was a bit more painful for my husband than he expected. However, Dr. Roeder took his time and was always checking to make sure my husband was comfortable (well, as comfortable as he could be under the circumstances). I watched the entire surgery and was very happy with everything that was being done. The fluid found during surgery contained lots of heads and parts, which is what the Dr. expected. He said that it might take a little bit for the swimmers to return, but said the surgery went perfectly. So, we are very optomistic about our chances. We probably won't event start TTC for about 3 months, but I will post about our experiences when we do.
As far as the recovery process, my husband was feeling ok enough to go to dinner, but honestly, was very uncomfortable and shouldn't have gone. I would suggest sending your hubby straight to the couch or to bed afterwards, even if he feels ok, because he probably won't feel so hot after a few hours. Be prepared to help him with dressing (shoes, undies, pants, etc). And go to the bathroom with him the first day or two to help with the gauze placement. Also, you might want to warn him about how it looks before he sees it. My husbands face looked so distraught after he saw his "wounds" for the first time. Also, be prepared with a couple bags of frozen peas, they really helped my husband. And, even if you don't think you'll need it, get an athletic supporter... that also really helped, especially since there had been a big gap, he needed the extra support.
If anyone has any questions about Dr. Roeder, please feel free to ask.
