Hi everyone!
Well we're back from surgery! DH began the surgery at 10:30 and Doc didn't come out until 3:40...that was a LONG wait!!!!!!! (just as a reminder...dh's vasectomy is 10 years old)
Doc came out of the room with a big, old smile on his face, which put me at ease right away. He said that dh had quite a bit of scarring on the left side (which is what took awhile) but still didn't have to do the VE - right side looked great! On the left side, he saw sperm heads (which he was happy about) and on the right side he already saw SWIMMERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just about hit the floor when he said that!!!!! LOL! I was going to be just thrilled if he saw SOMETHING after ten years but to hear both sides showed at least something, was beyond my wildest dreams.
DH took about two hours to come out of the anesthesia - he was SO knocked out. Only complaint that I have heard from him so far is that his back was in so much pain. I think that it stemmed from laying in that one position for basically six hours. The actual area of the surgery has not bothered him at all - just doing the John Wayne walk but besides that - doing really well. I woke him up every four hours to give him his pain meds and plan to stay steady with that for the next couple days.
So - so far, so good! Dr. Smith and his staff were absolutely phenomenal! And knowing that this is a personal mission of his, makes me all that much more hopeful. As we left, he showed us a picture of a baby that he received last week from one of his VR patients - and wished us well and hopeful that he will also be receiving one of those cards from us.
I hope so too...
Melissa
