Are there any real complications of a tubiligation?

I am 42 and pg with our 6th child who we hope will be the end of the line. I am clearly a woman who doesnt have a hard time getting pg but really dont do pg very well. Its extremely rough on me.

Hubs and I have been seriously considering having my tubes tied at the upcoming planned C'section. I honestly look fwd to not having to fuss with bc or the real possibility of pregnancy again. IM OLD! :-( And I sure do feel it! :-(

Cancer of all sorts run in my immediate family and we are not certain of hubs genetic history. So would that be a concern also?

I just dont want to go from mild cramping AF's to extreme cramping, heavy flows...etc.."jumping from the frying pan into the fire" as it were.

Any input will be greatly appreciated.

Hi there and welcome to the board. I am sorry that you are looking for permanent sterilization. It is definitely a personal choice, however, there are other methods that are just as effective. Natural Family Planning is something that many ladies on this board would recommend based on our own experiences with VR/TR.

Having not been on the side of having a Tubal, I am not sure what to expect with periods following or other risks involved.

I would just recommend weighing all the options and pros/cons before rushing to a decision that you may regret later. The decision however is ultimately yours and if there are no regrets then you wont ever make the wrong choice.

Good luck with the upcoming baby!!

First some background info; I'm a VR wife. My husband had his vasectomy shortly after we had our fifth child/first son. Long story short...he experienced Post Vasectomy Pain Syndrome (PVPS) which drove him quickly to reversal. That was over four years ago. Since that time, I've been a member of this board and others. I've studied about PVPS, see the site (www.painaftervasectomy.org) . You might ask "How is this revelent to you or to a Tubal Ligation? Because during my research, I became aware of a similar syndrome in women called Post Tubaligation Syndrome. It's caused because of nerve damage and loss of blood vessels to the arteries. It can cause the ovaries to atrophy. That in turn caused hormonal disruption. Many women complain of longer, more painful periods after having a TL. Staticially proven, there is an increase in the likelihood of having a hysterectomy after tubaligation. Those are facts. I include the site with info about this sydrome found in women. www.tubal.org/symptoms_of_pts.htm

I would not recommend sterilization for any man or woman.  My husband and I had another son post reversal and since, we practice NFP. I am 41 years old.

Sue
