I have been discussing the details with my DH.  We haven't scheduled yet or even decided for sure what Dr. we want to use for the VR.

My DH is worried about work and the no lifting during the 4 weeks after.  I told him we could take off on a medical type leave.  He is not convinced.  He just started this job in April.  So I don't know.  It seems so far out of reach at this point.

What were your dh's exerperiences?  How was the recovery?   He gets 6 days off every month in a row.  So we could schedule it during that time.  He works 12 hour swing shifts.

Thanks!!

Cindy

Hi Cindy!  Does your DH have heavy lifting as part of his work?  My DH only took one week off (the doctor had recommended 2) but works an office job.  the worst part for him was taking the bus to work as it can be bumpy.  We bought him some briefs for the first few weeks which stablized his goods for the bus rides and that helped.

The 6 days off is good for sure - if he does heavy lifting though he will definitely need or want to take a bit more time I would think.  Good luck - I hope you guys can work it all out.

Yes, he does do lifting.  He works at a plant that he has to turn heavy tough valves etc.  I read 4 weeks without heavy lifting.    So I don't know about that.  I feel he needs to take a leave from work for 4 weeks.

Cindy ~

Is there any chance your DH can get light duty at work? The VR doc will give a medical note for the employer if needed. I do not believe medical leave is paid until you have been on the job for at least 12 months. Otherwise it is unpaid. Check with your DH's HR department to get the specifics.

Ideally, your DH would want to stay off his feet for the first several days with lots of ice on and off for the first 3-7 days. An athletic supporter is a definite non negotiable during the first 2 weeks. Encourage him to continue the supporter even if it is uncomfortable. It will ensure the "boys" stay still amidst all the day to day activities allowing them to heal without too much added trauma.

If possible, I would try to get the VR done on day 1 of his 6 consecutive days off and then maybe try for a vacation week after that. Usually by 2 weeks out the DH's are feeling pretty well back to normal.

I hope you can find a compromise with DH, the VR, work and all the other things involved.

((( hugs )))

Thanks for the advice.  He will be at his job for 1 yr. in April.  Not that much longer to wait if we have to.  Especially since we will probably not get an appointment for two months out when we schedule anyway.

There is no light duty that he knows of in his department.  I wish there was.

We will see.  I am a firm believer that if it is meant to be, God will let us have it.  :D  It will work out.

I also need to lose some weight first because I am on some meds that I need to be off of to TTC.  And losing it will probably put me in good shape.
