Hi all. I haven't had my TR yet. Planned (but not scheduled for Feb. 2010). I've posted a couple of times asking about particular hormone levels in women over 40 (Day 3, Day 21). I am 44 (3 children) and my SO is 39 (no children). I asked my ObGyn to do some labs to check my hormones so I would have an idea whether going through the TR was worth it. So far, all the levels have been "within normal  limits" except my progesterone. It was 9.08. So my ObGyn asked if I wanted to go to a fertility specialist. I figured why not as my insurance covers infertility diagnosis and treatment (but not IVF, IUI, etc...). While filling out the paperwork today in advance of my appt. on Monday, I started wondering if anyone else had taken this approach--to be tested BEFORE TR. Or am I just too much of a planner and too practical? It was kind of funny filling out this long questionnaire asking all this stuff about my fertility knowing my tubes are still tied. Anyway...I'm rambling. Just wondering if any of you think this approach is smart or if I should have just waited until I had the TR, then see where I stand? As much as I am seeking the truth, I am so sacred it'll turn out to be something I don't want to hear and maybe I should have just had faith.

I am just beginning my TR journey. I'm going through my OB/GYN and then being referred to a military doctor that performs the surgeries. They are having me do a lot of testing before the TR (as well as a SA for DH). I have a bunch of blood work to do as well as an ultrasound of my ovaries, tubes, and uterus. I haven't had the lab work done yet (getting it started on Thursday), but I'm looking forward to getting the ball rolling. :)

I think it is a very smart and practical approach prior to the TR!! It is always better to know what you are dealing with before hand.

As with all the hormone level tests, I think another good option would be for your SO to do an SA to ensure that his counts are within normal ranges for achieving pregnancy!!

Good luck at the fertility clinic!! Let us know what the RE says. I hope you get the green light and get a BFP early next year!

You are definitely going about it the right way. I had a TR on 7/3/08. Prior to TR, I had my FSH and progesterone checked by my OB GYN. My progesterone also came back low but that was because it was checked on CD 3 along with my FSH and progesterone is supposed to be checked @ 7do. My RE who also performed my TR did the blood work again and it came back normal. DH also had a SA done.

I have not had any BFP's and have decided to try IUI and since it's been over a year my RE did my blood work again but this time he also checked my AMH levels and this came back low for my age which means I have diminished ovarian reserve for my age (I'm only 35). Had this test been done the first time, It would have saved me a year of trying naturally. We may have even skipped TR and went straight to IVF, so I would suggest that you ask for your AMH levels to checked to check your ovarian reserve. Good luck with everything.
