My hubby just had his VR today with Dr. Finnerty. After the surgery Dr. Finnerty said that at the site of the vas on one side there was some old sperm and a little bit of fluid. He said on the other side there was just some paste at the site of the vas. He said my dh had to have the repair on both sides at the epididymis. He said at the site of the epididymis on both sides was live fresh sperm. He acted like that was positive news. I thought all men had them live and fresh up there. Can you please explain all of this to me. I want to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly. We don't want any false hope. Dr. Finnerty said he thought we would get pregnant just that it might some time. What are your experiences with this? Is this the worse news to get, having a repair on both sides?

Thank you for your support.

Hi there and congrats on the VR today!! How exciting!!

With your concerns of the findings, I dont think you have anything to worry about just yet.

Good thing...sperm were found at the site.

It can take a bit longer for the sperm to return in the ejaculate post VE connections due to the bypass and the little guys needing to find the new way out. It can take up to 12 months or more to see a return of sperm. However, that is not always the case, you may be a lucky one with a first cycle BFP!

Every situation is different and the best advice that I can give you is to have your DH follow all of the doctors orders and ensure he takes the vitamins and supplements!! Additionally, having him take Ibuprofen or Aleve can help with the swelling and reduce the chances of scar tissue.

Good luck as you begin the TTC part of this journey!!

Congrats on your DH's VR!  Hope the healing goes well.  Our dr didn't tell us what he found, but I have heard a lot of people have old sperm or just heads or tails, so live sperm sounds very positive!! Good luck!

Thanks for the answers. I am just really confused and disappointed. I was hoping we would only need VV since it is only 3 1/2 years out. It sounds like if we get pregnant it will be a while.
