30,027 hospitalizations and 2827 US deaths

46 states with widespread activity, visits to doctors increased steeply in the past week.

22 flu-related pediatric deaths this week making a total of 114 since April (126 counting the other 12 childrens' deaths where influenza was confirmed but not subtyped).

Visits to docs, hospitalizations, and deaths are all climbing and higher than expected, 48 states are reporting widespread activity.

Influenza and pneumonia-associated hosp. and deaths from 8/30 to 10/24:  38,451 hospitalizations and 3,446 deaths in U.S.

Currently H1N1 vaccines are in short supply nationwide despite the H1N1 national state of emergency declared by President Obama.

NC is reporting an improvement this week -- 540: People who had flu infections last week, as reported through a statewide monitoring system; five people died. In the previous week, 647 people were reported with infections and six people died.

Meanwhile there is at least one little girl in Claire's kindergarten class with confirmed H1N1 (very sick since Saturday), and they have at least 3 kids out every day who are ill.  I take Claire's temperature every morning just in case.  Poor kids!
