I'm curious about earnings goals. I'm a hobby-level Mary Kay consultant with a part-time out-of-home job, but I'm thinking of kicking it up a notch with the direct sales. An extra $300 a month would really help me pay down my student loans faster, so I'm thinking of making that my goal.

Do you have a certain amount per month that you seek to earn? Or do you just take things as they come?

That's a great question.  I do medical transcription from home.  There is a minimum amount of lines we have to do to stay employed, but really we can make a lot more when work is plentiful.  There's enough work now, but I am so demotivated from pay cuts and incessant system changes that I do what I have to do and get out (20 hours per week).  I should set the bar higher for myself, but I don't see it happening now.  Perhaps in 2 years when my Big Dave begins kindergarten if I am still doing this then??  Or maybe I have kicked it up a notch by still working with the four young children, lol.  I can never decide.

As for you, home life is obviously only getting busier so don't spread yourself too thin and good luck!!!!

If we lived in a safe place I would be okay taking it easy, but lately the apartments in our complex are being burglarized (I won't even go into what I suspect are drug dealers above us) and I just can't take living here much longer. What I'm earning right now covers my loan payments, but that's all. I can't get much done while I'm at home, but the alternative is a full-time job, otherwise the cost of childcare would be more than what I earn. So no matter what, I'm going to be stressed out. :-(

We lived in an apartment for the first 11 years of our marriage until we finally had a down payment on our house.  It was a 3-bedroom in South Carolina, but then a 2-bedroom for the four of us when we moved to North Carolina.  We were packed in to say the least, and I had to work at a desk that was literally right in the middle of the apt between the kitchen, dining area, and living room.  Difficult didn't begin to cover it, especially after our neighbor up the hill molested a little girl who was a friend of his daughter's (not much older than my Katie).  We were definitely motivated to move and it sounds like you are too!  Keep the doors locked and hang in there.  I know you will do what it takes to make that big move too!!

I think in terms of hours instead of income when I set goals. But then there is direct link between the # of hours I sew and the amount of money I earn.
