Hi Everyone!!

I am new to this discussion board but not new to iVillage. I have a two year old and a two month old. Just wondering if anyone is doing any "at home" jobs found from online? Are they legit? If you have any info. on this topic I would appreciate it. I see a lot of stuff online but I am a little nervous about it. I need some extra money while staying at home with my kids. Of course I need part time and very flexible is the key. Thank you in advance.

Kristy

I'm sorry to say that the majority of the offers aren't legit, but you can learn A LOT by reading the old posts in the folders below on how to avoid the scams.  You will need to do your homework and check out the company, but there are lots of us who successfully work from home while raising our families.  You can do this!  I can't wait to hear how things go!!

PS  Checking companies with the Better Business Bureau has saved me a lot of money and heartache!

Hi,

Do you actually have a at home job you found from the internet? If so do you mind sharing how you found it with me? Thank you.

Sure, I found mine online by searching for medical transcription jobs as my degree is in Health Information Management.  The company is Spheris.  People often have the most success "going with what they know" and I'm no exception.  Think about what you enjoy doing and you will be more likely to stick with it.  Good luck!!

Hi Kristy,

You've gotten some great advice. There are two ways to work at home. One is to find a company willing to let you telecommute. iVillage is a perfect example of this. Many of their paid employees work remotely. wahm.com lists many telecommute opportunities and they update their opportunities daily. These are real jobs working for real companies. Just as you would need offline, you'll need a resume, specific skills etc depending on job offered.

The other way to work at home is by starting a business. This can be affiliate marketing, direct sales, selling on Etsy or ebay or offering a service that can be offered online such as resume writing or virtual assisting.

Hope that helps a bit.
