Recommendations for a manual pump

Hi Everyone,

My name is Katie and I have been working and pumping for 6 months now.  I currently use a Medela PIS.  I am planning a day trip to NYC with my husband and some friends for shopping, dinner and a show.  We are taking the train and I really can't see dragging my big electric pump all around the city. I was looking into getting a small manual pump to use just for the day. Just wondering if anyone had any good recommendations.  I am looking for something small and inexpensive (probably only using it for that day) Thanks!

Katie

A friend of mine used a Medela manual one she bought at Target one day when her son had surgery and she said it worked as well as her rented hospital grade double electric.  Spencer will surely be along to answer this question, but how long are you going to be gone?  I'm wondering if it's just a day thing and your baby is 6+ mo old whether it's even necessary.  If it's a day trip type of situation, you might be able to nurse a lot the night before (try dream feeding) and then go the day -- hand expressing if you need to reduce the pressure -- without pumping.  Nurse like mad upon arrival home.  Spencer???

A big thank you to Jill (scrappyjill) for the awesome siggy.

Thanks for the reply. I am just going for the night but would be able to pump in the morning and again late at night when we get back from being out all day...so maybe I would be able to just not pump. My DD is 8.5 months old and only nurses 4-5 times a day.

So you're going to be about 24 hours?  I'd imagine that might be uncomfortable going that long w/o pumping.  You could probably get away w/ only a couple pumps, though, say bedtime, morning, and then as needed for discomfort during the day.

I know Medela makes a hand pump ... I've never used it but I've heard good things about it.
