Working and Pumping

I'm looking for some ideas, advice, etc.

I am definitely having a mid-life crisis, a few years early.  :)  I "like" my job, but I don't love it.  I always wanted to work in medicine (heavily pursued until I got a C in my first semester of Chem in college) and then, despite the high interest, was a foolish college kid and bagged the whole thing.  I ended up majoring in Communications and Education and:

1.  Taught middle school math

2.  Worked for a financial company as a Communication Consultant

3.  Taught middle school langauge arts (English) and math

4.  Currently teaching middle school language arts (no math)

My current plan is to apply to this program that is sort of a one-two year pre-med program (it's hard to explain) and then apply to med school.  The number of people accepted into the program is very low (one thing I read said they take about 10 applicants out of 300 per year -- don't know the accuracy.)  So, the chance of getting in is really slim.  I plan to apply a total of two times -- once this Spring and once a year from that (perhaps in October of the year inbetween, but the chance of getting in then seems even slimmer.)  I am hoping for the best, but am fairly realistic that I probably won't get in.  Then what?  This is my current "issue."  I really have no direction beyond that.  I've gone online and looked for other careers in the health care field and am contemplating another masters degree, this time in Public Health, but I know, in my heart, that's not really want what I want to do -- I'm not keen on "desk jobs."

Other than that, life is good.  I'm looking for advice, ideas, input....
