I am a working/pumping mom.  Basically I pump at 4:30am, 8:00am, 11:30am, 3:30pm and I nurse my 3 month old when I get home for her 6:30pm feeding and 8:30pm feeding.  She already STTN so we don't have any nighttime feedings.

I went back to work last week after three months off.  Nursing was going perfect and even pumping has gone well since I went back to work.....as I'm able to pump enough to supply her for the next day.  However, the last couple days at our 6:30pm and 8:30pm nursing sessions in the evenings she is super fussy!  She acts like she doesn't want to nurse...she pulls on and off and gets really mad.  I know she is getting plenty of milk because I can see it in her mouth...I don't think it's a supply issue.

I'm wondering since she started bottles last week if she's getting bottle lazy?  Any ideas on how to get my nice relaxing nursing sessions back?  Help!

Hi there!  I have been dealing with a bit of this myself... Most of the time it's only when Brady gets really worked up before I can feed him and then he's too mad to just stop and eat.   But he does do a lot of 'suck-suck-suck-fuss-cry-come off-suck-suck-suck" with i'd say 1/2 of his feedings.  He cries and then acts like he's just starving attacking me to latch back on...

If we are having trouble, i try to take him into my bedroom and lie down - so we are both relaxed physically.  Then i'll sometimes give him some gas drops to settle his tummy a bit and get him calm enough to eat.  Finally sometimes when he won't latch on, i'll give him his pacifier until he calms for a minute and then try to switch him quickly to the breast.

I NEVER give in and give him a bottle.  I know it's not a supply issue for me either as i can still squeeze milk into his mouth easily.

We use breastflow bottles.  They have helped a lot as he has to work harder to feed from them.  Using a regular bottle and nipple I saw a huge increase in breast rejection.

Hopefully after a few more days Brynn will realize bottles are for day care provider and boobs are for mommy :)

Hi Colleen, Brandy gave just about all the suggestions i could think of.  Madison is like that here and there, she doesn't like taking the breast at all during the daylights in the last 4 weeks, even on weekends, she'd prefer the bottle and only wants to nurse overnight.  Unlike Brandy, I don't force the issue, there are times I am just too tired to fight with her and just give her a bottle, but then will pump.  It may be that she's just overstimulated from the daycare and will get frustrated more easily.  Going into a quieter, less lit area may help with this.  Do you nurse as soon as you get home?  There are plenty of nights that Madison will have just ate within the last hour at daycare, so I know she's not hungry, but wants to nurse as soon as we get home and I take it more as she just wants that mommy time, so if she starts fussing I switch over to a pacifier, but will hold her like I am nursing her and just sit with her or rock her and she usually is content that way.

That is exactly what Brynn is doing...."suck-suck-suck-fuss-cry-come off-suck-suck-suck".  I will try the paci (she loves her paci!) and a quiet room and see if that works better.  She may be getting distracted with my 3 year old and 2 year old running around too.  Thanks!

She has her last bottle at DC around 4pm.  I have wondered if maybe she just isn't hungry enough at the 6:30pm feeding so she is getting frustrated with the feeding in general.  I may need to re-think the timing of her bottles.  Thanks! :-)
