Hi ladies!

I try to pump 2x a day but sometimes it just doesn't happen. Usually when I pump 2x I get around 9-10 oz at my first session and another 5-6 oz at my second session.

If I delay my morning pump session a few hours I can get 12 oz.

My LO takes about 12 oz while I'm gone (8:30-6:30).

I'm sure it's better to pump twice a day...but if I can only pump once a couple times a week, is that a big deal?

My LO is 4 mo. old.

In general, two pumps is going to be better than 1, but if you're getting enough w/ 1 pump and it's occasional, then I think you're ok.

The only thing I'd be worried about is the "regulation" of your supply.  Usually this occurs somewhere in the 3-6 month range, and may take longer when you have oversupply.  Usually your pumping output decreases as this occurs.

If you aren't able to pump regularly twice a day when this regulation occurs, you may see you aren't pumping as much.  At this point you'll likely need to pump twice more regularly.

I go back and forth between one and two pumps.  I just can't do two pumps all the time, because I have a short work day (5-6 hrs).  But when it looks like i'm starting to slip on volume i'll add a pump for a few days and it takes care of the problem.  Usually I still get the same amount either way within just a couple of ounces. I dont' let it get too far gone before i up my pumping time.   I'd have a rockstar supply if I could pump twice a day every day.  The majority of the time i can keep up with just the one pump.

I tend to agree with Spencer, while 2 is really best at least for the time being, you could get away with 1 here and there.  But I think you are going to see a regulation of supply here pretty soon.  Do you have any sort of freezer stash, I would be a bit worried about growth spurts, and also once AF comes back (whenever that does happen) and you have dips in your supply, do you have enough backup to supplement with that?

Thanks ladies!

I do have a nice little freezer stash...a plastic shoe box in the deep freeze plus about 15-20 oz in the fridge freezer at any given moment. I'm sooo thankful to have this problem. DS is sick and has been nursing about half his normal amount the past few days so I've been more full than normal and was able to pump 19 oz yesterday and I'm on track for 22 oz today, if I get my usual amount out of my afternoon pumping session.

I know, I shouldn't take it for granted though. :)
